The Golden Opportunity Libertarians Missed
After decades of decrying the de facto two party system and correctly complaining about lack of viable choices, the Libertarian Party missed a golden opportunity in 2020.
A non establishment POTUS candidate managed to infiltrate the Republican party and win the 2016 election against all odds. But the Libertarian Party couldn’t get past the “republican” label.
During his first term President Trump did more than any other president since the founding fathers to advance personal liberty and dismantle authoritarian systems in the federal government.
Was he a Libertarian? No, he was a practical conservative that believed and practiced more solid libertarian principles than any Republican before him, including Abraham Lincoln.
The Libertarian Party had an opportunity in the 2020 election to deal a massive blow to both the Democrats AND establishment Republicans by endorsing Trump as a true anti-establishment candidate and ensuring his win despite the widespread election fraud.
If Trump had received the votes that went to Jorgensen the landslide would have been insurmountable.
Instead, the Libertarian Party fell prey once again to Einstein’s definition of insanity and ran a firm libertarian for POTUS and a social media clown for VP, angering the conservative base once again and finally confirming the spoiler effect beyond a shadow of a doubt.
It was a perfect opportunity for a third party to legitimately affect an election and make people take notice, and the Libertarian Party blew it.
Trump still spent money like a drunken sailor. (Apologies to some conservative sailors.)
We are beyond getting this government under control. Soon, we’ll not be able to afford the interest on our debt, much less paying off the principle.
And then? The fun will start in earnest.
Agreed. He isn’t a libertarian, but he did more libertarian things than any other president in modern times. And we reached the point of insurmountable debt long ago.
