Why I Stopped Attending Church – Again

Several weeks ago I thought I had a brilliant idea.

I assumed that since churches remain one of the most voluntarily segregated places in America it would be a great place to find common ground with fellow Christ followers of a different ethnicity than myself.

So I started attending and participated in Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church virtual services. I listened to the sermons, but I didn’t hear much biblical teaching or expository.

What I did hear was a ton of BLM support and political opinion wrapped in the guise of sermons. Much of it was far outside the pale of orthodoxy.

But I did my best to listen and try to see it from the perspective of the pastor.

I held on to the hope that a return to solid biblical teaching was going to occur anytime once the current outrage transitioned to a more calm debate.

It didn’t. The final straw was when senior pastor Rev. Terry Turner posted a blatant accusation claiming John MacArthur was racist on facebook.

That’s when I determined that Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church wasn’t for me. When outright lies and attacks on other genuine Christ followers are generated by the senior leadership of a church that church’s pulpit has become a political propaganda tool instead of a platform for the Good News of Jesus Christ.
